Jun 27, 2019 (newstodate): With the first flight from Helsinki on November 30, 2019, Finnair is to offer flights to Beijing's new airport, Daxing International Airport.
The new mega-airport, poised for a position among the Top-3 airports in the world, is due to open on September 30, 2019, with four runways and 80 aircraft stands.
Finnair will start out with three weekly rotations, in addition to the existing daily flights to Beijing International Airport, and the carrier will be the first international airline to launch intercontinental long-haul service to Daxing Airport, as well the first foreign carrier to be operating at both airports serving Beijing.
In June this year, Finland and China agreed on a new Joint Action Plan 2019-2023 promoting a future-oriented new-type cooperative partnership.
As part of the extensive plan, Finland and China agreed to increase the quota of weekly flights from Helsinki to Beijing from currently seven to 14 weekly operations, thus leaving space for another four more flights between the two points and daily services to Daxing Airport.
In the next phase, the new Beijing Daxing International Airport will be expanded to a total of seven runways and another terminal in order to accommodate 620,000 flights and 100 million passengers each year.
