Jun 19, 2019 (newstodate): The Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways is pinning its future on the Airbus A320 fleet.
On the second day of the Paris Air Show, the carrier signed an order with Airbus for another two Airbus A320neo aircraft for delivery in H2, 2023, and H2, 2024, respectively.
By the end of 2024, the airline will thus have four Airbus A320neo in the fleet, building on the first two orders under a leasing agreement with ALC.
The first Airbus A320neo is due for delivery within a month and the second aircraft will follow by Spring 2020.
Based at Vagar Airport, Atlantic Airways currently operates a fleet comprising two Airbus A319 and one Airbus A320 aircraft, as well as two AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters.
One of the two A319 aircraft will be redelivered to is owner as the first Airbus A320neo enters serviced with Atlantic Airways.
The first destination to see the new aircraft will be Copenhagen Airport where the A320neo is slated make its debut on July 1, 2019, alternating from then on with the Airbus A320 aircraft.
According to the current listing, the A320neo will be serving from October 28, 2019, on routes to Edinburgh and Keflavik Airport as well as calling at Aalborg and Billund Airports on December 19 and 20, 2019, respectively.
Atlantic Airways is also planning a series of 4-6 rotations between the Faroe Islands and New York from September 2019 with Airbus A320neo aircraft.
