Jun 24, 2019 (newstodate): Nordica is now further reining in on its scheduled services, announcing the suspension of flights on several routes.
The coming changes follow from a renewed cooperation agreement between Nordica and LOT, according to which LOT will take over the management of ticket sales and customer service leaving Nordica to focus solely on the role as a capacity provider.
To be axed as a result of the reorganization, five unprofitable Nordica routes from Tallinn to Kiev, Copenhagen, Trondheim, Vienna, and Vilnius will be suspended from the end of this summer schedule by October.
Nordica already pulled out from serving routes from Tallinn to Oslo, Amsterdam and St Petersburg from January 2019.
Flights will continue from Tallinn to Stockholm, Brussels and Warsaw, but now operated by LOT from July 1, 2019.
The company cites strong competition and oversupply of seats on Tallinn routes as the reason for the pull-out, and the change in the market is not least caused by the build-up of Latvia's airBaltic in the Estonian market.
-In order to maintain readiness and our ability to provide the necessary regional air connections to Estonia in the future, Nordica will continue to provide air services, and LOT will deal with routes and ticket sales and will carry the commercial risk, the company says.
Nordica is now dedicating all capacity to the ACMI and capacity lease market.
Today, Nordica's largest ACMI customer is SAS with seven ATR 72-600 aircraft operating on regional routes, primarily out of Copenhagen Airport, under the brand name of Regional Jet.
LOT, holding 49 percent of the stake in Regional Jet, is also a strong ACMI partner, and in 2019 Nordica landed a contract with Air Serbia covering one CRJ900 aircraft for a four-month period.
In the fleet are now 19 aircraft including seven ATR 72-600, two CRJ700, and 10 CRJ900, five of which are operated for LOT.
