Jun 19, 2019 (newstodate): Trucks are fighting hard to deliver and pick up cargo within narrow fixed time slots at airport cargo terminals - but a pertinent airport infrastructure serving this traffic is generally lacking.
Denmark's Copenhagen Airport is no exception as there are no dedicated parking areas, or pit-stops, dedicated to road feeder services allowing drivers to pause before proceeding to the cargo terminal at the appointed time, or to pause for compulsory rests as required by regulations.
According to the industry, truck drivers are instead fighting to find narrow parking spaces in the cargo terminal areas, contributing to congestion.
Still, the issue has no place in Copenhagen Airport's planning.
-There are no immediate plans for establishing a dedicated parking area within the airport area, confirms Lars Lemche, Copenhagen Airport Acting Head of Media Relations & Senior Advisor.
-We do, however, watch the situation. It is important to secure the operation of the cargo business, and ensure that it does not bother our neighbours.
Apart from this statement, Copenhagen Airport has not provided any further assessment of the issue, nor indicated if any concrete action might be considered to relieve the alleged pressure on the traffic system and the truck drivers.
