May 13, 2019 (newstodate): Dark clouds are gathering over plans for a new seafood terminal at Oslo Airport.
On Friday, Avinor announced that the MoU signed with World Flight Services for operating the planned terminal had been abrogated.
-Avinor and WFS have agreed to terminate the agreement, the Avinor release reads.
-During the planning process, WFS initiated changes that were not in conformance with the procurement regulations to be followed by Avinor.
In August 2018, Avinor signed the MoU with WFS to operate the much-hyped new terminal slated to be commissioned in 2021.
According to plans, construction works should start in April 2019 after a series of tenders, and the new terminal would be designed with a capacity of handling up to 250,000 tonnes of seafood annually.
The project has however run into growing problems with several parties in the Norwegian seafood industry, and the very need for a state-supported seafood terminal to compete with the existing privately-owned seafood handling companies has been questioned.
