May 16, 2019 (newstodate): Cargo volumes through Latvia's Riga Airport did drop in April - but the negative trend in 2019 seems to easing.
Total volumes were down by 5.8 percent, y-o-y, in April, to 2,119 tonnes including 1,082 tonnes of cargo and 1,037 tonnes of mail.
In April 2019, air cargo thus dipped by 26 percent, while mail volumes rose by 33 percent, compared to last year.
The April-statistics are, however, blurred by the retreat from Riga Airport from April 19, 2018, of Turkish Cargo's two weekly freighter services since July 1, 2017, so a more reliable picture of the actual performance of Riga Airport as to cargo will emerge only from May 2019.
During the first four months of this year, Riga Airport has seen its total volumes down by 15.6 percent, y-o-y, to 8,671 tonnes.
In this period, cargo volumes were down by 32 percent, while mail volumes increased by 23 percent.
