May 07, 2019 (newstodate): Integrators DHL and FedEx saw little change in cargo volumes handled in Q1, 2019, compared to last year.
Together, the two companies handled a total of 18,952 tonnes against 18,811 tonnes in Q1, 2018, a slight increase by 0.7 percent.
Cargo carried in passenger aircraft belly-holds were insignificant, with only 27 tonnes against 155 tonnes in Q1, 2018.
Cargo transported on freighters dropped by 3.5 percent, y-o-y, to 14,887 tonnes, while trucked cargo was up by 19.4 percent, to 4,017 tonnes in Q1, 2019.
As announced in 2018, DHL Express is to establish a new cargo handling facility to be commissioned in 2023.
DHL Express has thus bought a 43,116 sq m land plot adjacent to its existing cargo handling terminal, currently housing the facilities of Gate Gourmet.
After pertinent permits and tenders to be conducted in 2019, the Gate Gourmet building will be demolished to give way for a new 26,172 sq m terminal with capacity to sorting of some 37,000 items per hour.
