May 03, 2019 (newstodate): Ukraine plans to build a new airport, the first green-field airport project since Ukraine gained independence in 1991.
Among options for localization of the project, the focus in on a site between Dnipro and Zaporizhia, in the country's central-southern region.
Tentatively named Prydniprovia Airport, construction works including terminal facilities and a runway are earlier slated to start in 2019 and planned for commissioning by 2021-22 aiming at capacity serving over three mio passengers annually.
The country's government has opened up for joint investments from both Ukrainian and foreign sides, and design work and planning has already been commenced.
An alternative to building a new airport would be expansion and modernization of the existing Dnipropetrovsk International Airport that was, however, sold in 2009 to a private Ukrainian investment company Galtera, controlled by Igor Kolomoisky, and thus outside government control.
