May 24, 2019 (newstodate): Plans for launch of a new Swedish ACMI carrier Scanblu are now clouded in mist.
According to an informed source, the long-drawn-out process of obtaining a Swedish AOC resulted in the project losing its financial support, and ScanBlu has this week given up on the lease of its first aircraft, an Airbus A321 that has been returned to the lessor.
While shifting location of the projected carrier to another country for registration were next considered, the process is now focussing entirely on sourcing a new investor to back the project.
Initially, Scanblu with Christian Tadjeran as CEO was aiming at starting commercial services already in 2018, contracted by the Greek Carrier Ellinair and to be based at Corfu for summer 2018, operating charters and scheduled flights for Ellinair and other European Charters.
These plans were stalled, however, as the carrier did not in time obtain an AOC from the Swedish CAA.
Scanblu then aimed at having the AOC at hand by the turn of October/November 2018, but this deadline was also not met, and later hopes to have the AOC granted by mid-December 2018, also did not materialize.
