May 13, 2019 (newstodate): Norwegian is to cut deep into its provision of flights on long-haul routes from Scandinavia during the next winter schedule, winter 2019/20.
According to Swedish media, plans are to axe all Norwegian long-haul flights from Copenhagen, this winter operated to Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.
From Stockholm, Norwegian will keep only the route to Fort Lauderdale, while the flights to Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco will be suspended.
Finally, Norwegian's flights to New York and Fort Lauderdale will remain on the schedule, while flights on the routes to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Orlando will be suspended.
Traffic on the North American lanes is highly seasonal, with its peak during the summer and its nadir during the winter schedule.
Behind the drastic measures is the need for improving the carrier's financial situation in the wake of previous years' hectic expansion, while the sustained problems with the engines driving the Boeing 787 fleet continue to burden the airline that is also hit by the current grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX fleet.
