May 08, 2019 (newstodate): The low-cost carrier Norwegian is seeking aircraft capacity in the market to compensate for the shortfall due to the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft grounding.
Norwegian has thus now signed a contract with the Romanian carrier Blue Air comprising two Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Starting from June 1, 2019, the two aircraft will be based at Stockholm Arlanda Airport to operate for Norwegian on flights to destinations in Italy, Spain, Portugal and Germany during the summer schedule.
Norwegian has also signed similar short-term contract with operators including Wamos, HiFly, Evelop, Enter Air, Jet Time, Corendon, and Avion Express.
The carrier has 11 MAX 8 aircraft in the fleet, and their grounding poses a major challenge to its ability to maintain scheduled services.
Norwegian has more than 110 Boeing 737–800 aircraft in its fleet, which is not affected by the temporary suspension.
