May 24, 2019 (newstodate): Expecting that the suspension of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will last longer than anticipated, Icelandair has made further changes to its flight schedule until September 15, 2019.
Icelandair has already added three leased aircraft to its fleet for this summer season, but the carrier is now working on leasing an additional Boeing 767-300 aircraft, bringing the leased-in fleet to four aircraft.
Icelandair thus sourced two Boeing 767-300 aircraft on a dry-lease contract, with the first aircraft entering operation by mid-April, and the second aircraft joining by the beginning of this month.
The carrier has also added one Boeing 757-200 aircraft on a similar basis from May 15, 2019, and till the end of September.
With these changes, the total seat capacity from July 15 to September 15 will decrease by five percent from what the company had estimated.
However, following these changes the number of available seats during the period will still increase by 10 percent, y-o-y.
