May 09, 2019 (newstodate): April 2019 proved another month of sustained growth in cargo volumes for Finnair Cargo.
A total of 14,287 tonnes was lifted on the carrier's passenger flights, an increase by 19.6 percent, y-o-y, and bringing the January-April volumes to 51,816 tonnes, which is up 26.7 percent on last year.
In April, the growth was driven by positive increases all across the board, with North America leading with a growth by 73.1 percent, followed by Europe with a 57.4 percent growth rate, while the crucial Asian volumes were also up by 8.5 percent, y-o-y.
Available scheduled cargo tonne kilometres increased by 27.0 percent, y-o-y, and revenue scheduled cargo tonne kilometres increased by 15.3 percent, mostly driven by the positive cargo market development in Norway, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.
Available cargo capacity still outstrips the sold capacity as the carrier builds up its fleet of Airbus A350 aircraft, so load factors are still down in 2019, compared to last year.
Over-all, the cargo load factor is down 5.8 percentage-points in April, to 56.6 percent, and on the Asian lanes the load factor is down 8.2 percentage-points to 62 percent, while the load factor on the North American lanes are down 4.9 percentage-points to a mere 47.9 percent.
