May 23, 2019 (newstodate): The Estonian state is evaluating its future ownership position in the country's carrier Nordica.
Today, Nordica is fully owned by the state, set up on September 25, 2015, by the decision of the Estonian Government, immediately after the liquidation of the previous national carrier, Estonian Air, aiming at securing continued connectivity for the country.
Since the start of this year, Nordica has however changed its strategy under growing pressure in the market from external competitors, and is now operating only routes from Tallinn Airport to Stockholm, Vilnius, Copenhagen, Brussels, Kiev, Warsaw, Vienna and Munich.
Instead, the focus has been redirected to the ACMI market, with SAS and LOT as its current largest customers.
With this change in strategy and improved operational profitability, the state's ownership interest has been reduced.
In the fleet are now 19 aircraft including seven ATR 72-600 aircraft operated for SAS, two CRJ700, and 10 CRJ900, five of which are operated for LOT.
