May 15, 2019 (newstodate): The Estonian carrier Nordica has not suffered in passenger volumes from its turn from a focus on scheduled services to adding ACMI and charter operations.
In 2018, the carrier actually increased passenger volumes by 150 percent, compared to its earlier best year, to 2.2 mio passengers.
-Operating one aircraft only in 2016, we started providing aviation operations to our parent Nordica, who was also our first customer.
-Now, 36 months later, we have four to five major partners in cooperation, we operate 19 aircraft and transport over two million passengers each year. That’s a noteworthy achievement for Estonian aviation, and we plan to continue climbing this year, says Jan Palmer, Regional Jet OÜ Chairman of the Board.
By the start of 2019, Nordica adjusted its route schedule as part of efforts to optimize the utilization of the resources, reflecting changing market situations and competition.
Nordica thus pulled out from the routes from Tallinn to Oslo, Amsterdam and St Petersburg from January 2019, leaving the carrier's route network after January 14, 2019, to comprise only flights to Stockholm, Vilnius, Copenhagen, Brussels, Kiev, Warsaw, Vienna and Munich.
During January-March 2019, Nordica has thus reduced its ex-Tallinn flight volume by 22 percent, y-o-y, to only 2,000, while its over-all flights volume increased by six percent to 7,500 flights during the same period.
Routes from Tallinn are served by five aircraft and 14 fly on routes outside Estonia.
It is planned to increase the routes outside Estonia even further this year.
Today, Nordica's largest ACMI customer is SAS with seven ATR 72-600 aircraft operating on regional routes, primarily out of Copenhagen Airport, under the brand name of Regional Jet.
LOT, holding 49 percent of the stake in Regional Jet, is also a strong ACMI partner, and in 2019 Nordica landed a contract with Air Serbia covering one CRJ900 aircraft for a four-month period.
In the fleet are now 19 aircraft including seven ATR 72-600, two CRJ700, and 10 CRJ900, five of which are operated for LOT.
