May 23, 2019 (newstodate): From May 1, 2019, new CEO at the Slovenian carrier Adria Airways is Sven Kukemelk.
Mr Kukemelk, an Estonian national, joined the carrier already in December 2018 as COO - and has thus now taken a final step up the airline's career ladder.
Mr Kukemelk will indeed require all skills learned through his 10 years in the aviation industry starting in 2009 with Estonian Air Academy and moving from there to Estonian Air and airBaltic, Tallinn Airport and Lufthansa Consulting, before landing in July 2016 as Nordica's subsidiary Regional Jet CEO, and finally serving as Nordica Aviation Group's Exec Director Business Development till September 2018.
Serving as Adria Airways CEO, Mr Kukemelk will face piles of challenges as the carrier as been on the verge of collapse from debts piles and has been forced to rein in on services, including suspending flights from the airline's home base at Ljubljana Brac, Bucharest, Dubrovnik, Dusseldorf, Geneva, Hamburg, Kiev, Moscow and Warsaw from the start of 2019.
Relations between Nordica and Adria Airways have been close, however, as the Slovenian carrier was instrumental in getting Nordica in the air with the first flight on November 8, 2015, with aircraft capacity leased from Adria Airways. Adria Airways also provided Nordica with an Air Operator's Certificate, the airline's first commercial platform, a ticketing system, staff and flight codes
