May 21, 2019 (newstodate): Wizz Air has postponed the opening of new flights between Georgia and European destinations, originally slated for launch from August 1, 2019.
Citing an "operational obstacle", Wizz Air is facing a delay in delivery of the third Airbus A320 aircraft to its base at Kutaisi Airport.
Instead, the new routes will be opened from September 10, 2019, when flights will commence between Georgia's Black Sea coast destination Kutaisi and six new European destinations, including Copenhagen in Denmark and Tallinn in Estonia, both to be served with two weekly rotations.
Wizz Air was the first European low-cost carrier to introduce low-cost traffic in the Georgian market by launching traffic on the route between Kiev and Kutaisi Kopitnari Airport from September 27, 2012.
Later, Wizz Air opened its base at Kutaisi Airport on September 23, 2016, with one aircraft, adding a second aircraft at the airport on May 17, 2018, and planning for a third from May 2019.
WIZZ Air is now operating flights between 27 European destinations and Kutaisi Airport.
