May 03, 2019 (newstodate): Albania has been without a flag carrier since November 2011 when Albanian Air collapsed.
Now, Air Albania is in the air with the first flight between Tirana and Istanbul on April 19, 2019, with its only aircraft so far - an Airbus A319 leased from Turkish Airlines that has also been strongly involved in establishing the carrier and holding 49 percent of the shares.
In the pipeline is the opening of flights on routes from Tirana to Milan, Rome, Bologna and London, with the UK and Italian flights to commence already later this summer.
To support the coming expansion of the network the carrier plans to order two Airbus A320.
Ambitions even comprise flights by Air Albania to North America - which is probably in the more distant future..
