May 29, 2019 (newstodate): Airbus is watching the Russian and CIS markets closely as a potential new sales venue for the Airbus A220 aircraft.
The Russian aviation authority Rosavitsiya has started the certification process for the Airbus A220, and hopes are to obtain a full certification of the aircraft already before the end of this year.
The process is focusing on the Airbus A220-300 aircraft that is the backbone of airBaltic in Latvia.
In its annual forecast, Airbus estimates the market for narrow-body aircraft with 100 seats and more in Russia and the CIS region to reach some 1,000 aircraft over the next 20 years, and Airbus would of course love to see its A220 aircraft series as a vial option, in competition to other western aircraft types in the segment.
In 2018, the Russian LCC Red Wings announced plans for acquiring six CS300 aircraft on an operating lease agreement with Russia's State Transport Leasing Company, GTLK, with deliveries in 2019 - but retreated again over cost issues.
