Apr 29, 2019 (newstodate): Due to the cool climate in Western/Russian relations, since 2018 all aircraft procurements exceeding one bio Roubles by Russian airlines must be approved by the government.
In respect of this, the Russian government has now approved Aeroflot's application for import of new Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
Aeroflot is thus allowed to place orders for 22 Airbus A350 and 74 medium-haul Airbus and Boeing aircraft, with types yet to be specified.
After this decision, Aeroflot will take delivery of its first eight Airbus A350 in 2020, followed by another seven in 2021.
Despite this, Aeroflot still aims to have 50 percent of its fleet consisting of Russian-built aircraft in 2030.
The carrier currently operates 50 Superjet 100 aircraft, and according to its new strategy, Aeroflot will increase the number of Russian-built aircraft to 190 by 2023.
The airline holds orders for 100 SSJ100 and 50 MC-21 aircraft.
