Apr 05, 2019 (newstodate): The Latvian charter and ACMI carrier SmartLynx is advancing in the project to set up a subsidiary on Malta.
The carrier's application for opening a Maltese AOC is still under preparation, but the coming new Maltese carrier has already taken delivery of its first aircraft on March 25, 2019, an Airbus A320 formerly operated by Myanmar Airways International, and plans are to add a second aircraft shortly.
With the opening of its new Maltese subsidiary, SmartLynx will be offering charter and ACMI capacity out of Malta Luqa Airport for customers in the Mediterranean markets
SmartLynx is already well acquainted with Malta after having operated many charter flights to Malta for various tour operators.
Among SmartLynx' ACMI customers is also Air Malta that leased one of the carrier's 16 Airbus A320 aircraft during the past Christmas winter peak.Latvian
