Apr 11, 2019 (newstodate): Traffic volumes are growing fast at Estonia's Tallinn Airport, calling for a major expansion of the infrastructure to cope with future sustained increases.
In 2018, the airport exceeded the three million passengers-mark while the current facilities are designed to handling of 2.6 mio passengers as a maximum - and over the last five years, the growth in passenger volume has been 50 percent.
Estimates are now that the airport will be handling some five mio passengers in 2030, and by 2035 the volume will go as high as eight mio passengers.
The airport has therefore embarked on an ambitious phased expansion plan towards an expanded Tallinn Airport passenger terminal with the annual capacity of servicing 6-8 million passengers in 2035.
The area of the terminal will grow to 85,000 sq m, compared to today's 34,000 sq m, while the number of gates will grow from 13 to 26.
