Apr 05, 2019 (newstodate): One airport in Denmark is keen to cooperate with Norway's Hav Line's project for landing fresh, processed salmon by ferry from Bergen to Denmark's leading fish port at Hirtshals.
-Hav Line's presentation at the recent Nordic Air Cargo Symposium in Oslo will prompt us to contact the company with an open offer for cooperation, says Jan Ditlevsen, Billund Airport VP Cargo.
-Billund Airport is close to Hirtshals, and we have rich experience in handling shipments of Norwegian seafood for onward transportation from Billund Airport by air as well as by road feeder services to continental airports.
-We offer 24/7 airfreight services with all pertinent infrastructure and skilled staff, a tight scheduled road feeder services network, as well as close cooperation with all authorities involved to secure smooth handling of cargo, says Mr Ditlevsen.
Hav Line's coming new service will be introduced with a purpose-built vessel taking in fresh salmon at Bergen for on-board slaughtering and processing, with some 1,000 tonnes landed at Hirtshals after only 22 hours of transportation time, compared to 83 hours with today's complex procedures including trucking and several stages.
At Hirtshals, Hav Line's partner is Skagerak Group that has established a new 9,000 sq m dedicated salmon terminal to handling of the coming new business.
The actual launch of the services are still pending final approval by the Norwegian authorities.
