Apr 01, 2019 (newstodate): After closing the deal with Icelandair/Loftleidir to acquire the majority stake in its national carrier, the government of Cabo Verde is now taking a further step in its aviation industry.
The government has thus announced a forthcoming opening of a tender process for a foreign investor to sign a management agreement for its airports.
The tender is optimistically expected to be closed already before the end of 2019, with a winner to take control of the country's seven airports, primarily the two leading airports at Sal and Praia.
In August 2017, Loftleidir Icelandic, TACV Cabo Verde Airlines and the Government of Cabo Verde signed a management agreement on the restructuring of the loss-making TACV Cabo Verde Airlines and position it as a key strategic asset to contribute to Cabo Verde's potential as a year-round tourist destination, and to develop Cabo Verde's position as a connecting hub with a CAT 1 airport linking four continents.
Since then, the Icelandic experts allocated to the project have worked out a new five-year plan for TACV Cabo Verde Airlines and has been engaged in the task of implementing the new strategies.
Loftleidir and the Icelandair Group have placed four Boeing 757-200 aircraft with TACV and may add more of these aircraft with TACV as Icelandair builds up - and activates - its fleet of new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and starts looking for future replacement of its Boeing 757 aircraft fleet.
