Mar 11, 2019 (newstodate): Besides efforts by Pole Position Logistics to set up a new China-bound freighter service at Eveness Airport later in 2019, exporters in the country's northern production areas will see the opening of a new railway cargo service to carry seafood shipments closer to the airline hubs in Central Europe.
Originally, plans included the start from July 2, 2019, of a direct railway cargo service with twice-weekly departures from Narvik to Malmo, in Sweden, to carry seafood shipments for onward transportation by air from Copenhagen Airport or by trucks on the highway system over the Oresund Bridge through Denmark to continental airports such as Frankfurt, Amsterdam and other hubs.
Pole Position Logistics is actively pursuing these plans while details have been adjusted.
-The test period was first changed to July 1, 2019, but our partner, Green Cargo has convinced us to wait until the end of the summer holiday season, and the test will thus start from September 1, 2019, instead, says Stig Winther, Pole Position Logistics.
-Also the market has convinced us that two weekly departures may be insufficient, so plans are now to offer three weekly operations to better meet market demands.
-We expect the test period to transform smoothly into scheduled operations, and from the outset the new service builds on firm customer commitments.
Today, transportation of live and fresh seafood products from north to south requires up to two days of trucking to reach Oslo Airport.
The coming train service will reduce total transport times to continental hubs by 24 hours which adds favorably to the shelf-life of the fresh seafood.
