Mar 01, 2019 (newstodate): Russia's St Petersburg Pulkovo Airport sees growing passenger volumes requiring plans for expansion to cope with the increase.
In 2018, the airport handled 18,122,286 passengers - an increase by 12.4 percent, y-o-y, and estimates are that the passenger volume will grow by another nine percent in 2019.
The airport management is therefore working to submit an airport development master plan by the end of this year's Q1.
Three options are available, in all cases requiring massive investments to cope with estimates of up to 25 mio passengers in 2023, and up to 39 mio passengers by 2039.
One option is to expand the Pulkovo central passenger terminal to comprise more passenger facilities. Another option is to construct an additional terminal for low-cost airlines in the southern part of the terminal complex, and the third option is to dedicate the Pulkovo-2 terminal to handling of low-cost flights.
