Mar 11, 2019 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport has still to see air cargo volumes lifting off in 2019.
After a drop by 11.7 percent in January 2019, February also produced no growth, with volumes down 18.2 percent, y-o-y.
After these two months, the airport has accumulated a decline by 15 percent in total volumes - 4,273 tonnes.
While mail volumes have actually increased from 713 tonnes in February 2018 to 876 tonnes in February 2019, cargo volumes were down by 34 percent, y-o-y, in February 2019.
The large difference in cargo volumes is, however, primarily reflecting the fact that Turkish Airlines was still operating its twice-weekly freighter service at Riga Airport in February, moving the service to Lithuania's Vilnius Airport only from April 19, 2018.
Only the May 2019 figures will thus show the true picture of air cargo developments at Riga Airport.
