Mar 07, 2019 (newstodate): Starting from April 8, 2019, Helsinki Airport will see a new Chinese airline at the gate: Tibet Airlines.
The carrier will start out with one weekly rotation on the route between Jinan, in China's Shandong Province, and Helsinki with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, adding a second frequency from May 9, 2019.
The route has been expected for a rather long time as Tibet Airlines first aired intentions of starting flights already from March 2018 with three weekly rotations.
Tibet Airlines will add a new Chinese destination to Helsinki's route map, complementing Finnair's network comprising six destinations in China - Beijing from June 2, 1988, Shanghai from September 2003, Chongqing from May 9, 2012, Xian from June 14, 2013, Nanjing from May 13, 2018, and Guangzhou from September 2, 2005, as well as to Hong Kong from May 19, 2007.
After Tibet Airlines, Juneyao Airlines will be next to add Helsinki as a destination with flights between Shanghai and Helsinki starting from June 28, 2019, with daily services.
Another Chinese airline, the HNA Group subsidiary Lucky Air also applied to CAAC for rights to open a route from Kunming to Helsinki in 2018, scheduled for start of operations from January 17, 2018 - which did not happen..
