Mar 27, 2019 (newstodate): Iceland's cargo carrier Bluebird Nordic reports a sound performance in 2018 and maintains its conservative approach to the market.
-We are seeing much turbulence in the aviation industry these times, but thanks god we are in the cargo business, says Steinn Logi Bjornsson, Bluebird Nordic Chairman of the Board.
-Having said that, we did lose some contracts by the end of the year and have performed less flights so far into 2019 as well. Still, we are in a good position financially and have always remained rather conservative in our strategy and financial management.
-As there is some decline in production, we are considering selling our three company-owned Boeing 737-300 freighters to invest instead in acquisition of a similar number of Boeing 737-400 freighters on top of the five aircraft of this type currently in the fleet.
-We also still keep an eye on adding passenger ACMI business to Bluebird Nordic, and the Boeing 737-800 aircraft would be ideally suited for us.
-However, due to the sustained engine production problems and today's turbulence around the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, the value of the Boeing 737-800 has risen significantly, so we will await a normalization of this market before taking further moves into the passenger ACMI segment, says Mr Bjornsson.
