Mar 08, 2019 (newstodate): The Czech charter carrier Smartwings, earlier named Travel Service, is mulling plans for setting up a subsidiary in Germany.
According to German industry media, Smartwings has hired Oliver Pawel, formerly Small Planet Airlines Germany's CEO, to spearhead the process that initially includes the lease of one Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Also taking part in the process of forming the new airline is Andreas Wobig, coming from a similar position with the now-defunct Small Planet Airlines Germany.
The two are at least well acquainted with working together, serving as former Germania CEO and CCO prior to the Small Planet Airlines period.
Small Planet Airlines Germany was declared bankrupt on November 28, 2018, and Germania went bust on February 4, 2019.
