Mar 13, 2019 (newstodate): Nine years after its introduction in 2010, e-AWB became the default contract of carriage for all air cargo shipments on enabled trade lanes on January 1, 2019.
On an international level, the rate of e-AWB penetration has now surpassed 60 percent - and the Nordic and Baltic markets are doing well, too.
By the end of December 2018, Denmark with the largest e-AWB potential at 7,610 AWBs reached 59.67 percent against 45.40 percent in January 2018.
Second-largest in terms of e-AWB potential was Sweden where the penetration rate was 54.30 percent in December against 40.50 in January, followed by Norway, 48.47 percent in December and 31.40 percent in January.
Finland, ranking fourth in e-AWB potential, reached 52.55 percent in December against 42.20 in January 2018.
Iceland landed at an e-AWB penetration rate at 69.29 percent in December 2018 against 73.870 percent in January.
In the Baltic region, Lithuania ranked #1 in e-AWB potential, reaching 88.64 percent in December 2018 and 76 percent in January, followed by Estonia with 67.79 percent in December and 39 percent in January, while Latvia reached 52.91 percent in December against 34.70 percent in January 2018.
-Summing up the development in e-AWB penetration in the Nordic & Baltic markets, figures for 2018 show that we have reached over 50 percent almost everywhere. And even if Iceland is down 4.5 percent since January 2018 it doesn’t matter because they are still at almost 70 percent, says Thomas Hedbarg, IATA Aviation Industry Analyst, Nordic & Baltic.
