Mar 18, 2019 (newstodate): The Civil Aviation Administration of China has granted rights for Hainan Airlines to launch flights on two new routes to Hungary.
If the rights are actually exploited, the carrier will start operating flights from Shenzhen via Xian to Budapest, as well as between Chongqing and Budapest.
CAAC has granted rights for the carrier to operate two weekly rotations on each route, starting from August 2019.
Earlier, Hainan Airlines was online at Budapest with flights from Beijing from May 2004 with thrice-weekly rotations operated with Boeing 767-300 aircraft in cooperation with the now-defunct Malev, but pulled out again from March 2012.
As already announced, Budapest Airport will also see the launch of flights from Shanghai by Shanghai Airlines, in partnership with China Eastern Airlines, with three weekly rotations on the route from June 7, 2019, using Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
Today, the only direct flight connecting Hungary and China is provided by Air China on the route between Beijing and Budapest, served since May 1, 2015, with four weekly rotations.
