Mar 08, 2019 (newstodate): European airports are queuing up for luring Chinese airlines to set up hubs for China-Europe air cargo and e-trade logistics.
One bid is placed by Hungary's Budapest Airport that will see the launch of flights from Shanghai by Shanghai Airlines, in partnership with China Eastern Airlines.
Shanghai Airlines will offer three weekly rotations on the route from June 7, 2019, with Boeing 787-9 aircraft bringing in new cargo capacity into Budapest.
In preparation of the coming new route, a delegation from the Shanghai Cross-border E-commerce Association, and Invest Shanghai, has attended a day-long workshop and tour of the airport's cargo facilities, organized by the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency and the Consulate General of Hungary, Shanghai.
Budapest Airport is working hard to establish a role as the leading Central and Eastern air cargo hub, handling 146,113 tonnes of air cargo in 2018, increasing 14.9 percent, y-o-y.
