Mar 22, 2019 (newstodate): In 2018 saw a deterioration in the air safety in the CIS region's 12 states, formerly comprising the Soviet Union.
A total of 164 deaths was recorded in 2018, against 74 in 2017.
At the same time, the total number of accidents, 58, remained unchanged, while the number of fatal accidents even dropped from 32 to 25 during the year.
Russia itself accounted for the bulk of the fatalities - the number of accidents increased from 39 to 42, and the number of victims increased from 51 to 128 people.
Statistics show that most of the accidents and fatalities occurred with larger aircraft, and in 75 percent of all accidents, human factors were the main cause.
