Feb 26, 2019 (newstodate): Sweden's Norrkoping Airport is keen to develop its infrastructure to allow for more regular scheduled traffic with larger aircraft.
The goal for the airport is to achieve certification as a Category E airport allowing for traffic with aircraft up to the size of Airbus A350 and Boeing 787, which is currently only allowed by individual dispensation.
Also driving the development is the need to allow for traffic with larger freighter aircraft where the capacity of the current services with Boeing 737 freighters have long since reached the ceiling, calling for capacity to handling of Boeing 757 aircraft on regular scheduled basis.
Today, the airport has one 2,203 m runway that would need to be widened and strengthened, and new taxiways and more aircraft parking stands are needed as well.
