Feb 22, 2019 (newstodate): Stuck in Shiraz, Iran, since December 14, 2018, a Norwegian's Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft is expected to finally continue within a week on its aborted flight from Bangkok to Oslo.
An engine failure forced the aircraft to perform a landing at Shiraz Airport, and from there an overly long process started to bring in a spare engine allowing the aircraft to fly out again in the face of harsh US sanctions imposed on Iran.
According to the sanctions, imports of machinery and products containing more than 10 percent of US components are prohibited, and to this embargo on trade and suspension of banking facilities in deals with Iran also added to the troubles.
But now the skies are opening..
-We are in the process of having a new engine flown to Iran for our Boeing 737 MAX within the next few days, Andreas Hjornholm, Norwegian spokesman told newstodate in a mail yesterday.
-It is too early to say exactly when the aircraft will be airborne, but our goal is to fly the aircraft back to Scandinavia within the next week.
