Feb 12, 2019 (newstodate): To prevent a repetition of last year's cancellations of flights, Lufthansa is leasing in extra capacity from providers.
In 2018, shortage of aircraft forced Lufthansa to cancel a number of flights during the peak summer season causing major distress and a pile of passenger compensations.
This summer, Lufthansa is thus adding two Airbus A220-300 from airBaltic on a wet-lease contract, to be based at Munich Airport from March 31 2019 to October 26, 2019, for operations on European routes.
Lufthansa will also wet-lease five Boeing 737-800 aircraft from the Turkish carrier Sun Express and a yet-unannounced number of Bombardier CRJ900/100 from the Spanish carrier Air Nostrum for flights in the Mediterranean region.
