Feb 27, 2019 (newstodate): The growing hostility between India and Pakistan over Kashmir is immediately affecting international aviation.
Already now, the airspace over Pakistan has been closed as of this morning in the Karachi and Lahore flight information areas, and the airspace will remain closed at least till tomorrow, February 28.
India has also closed parts of its airspace for commercial air traffic and suspended operations at eight airports.
The airspace over the two countries is vital to flight planning by European airlines including Norwegian on its route to Bangkok, and Finnair that routes its flights to destinations including Delhi, Bangkok, Krabi, Phuket and Singapore on lanes over these two countries.
Rerouting the flights will in many cases involve refueling of aircraft to operate longer flights via alternative routes.
