Feb 21, 2019 (newstodate): Finnair's route to Belarus proved a short-lived success as the carrier is now pulling out again later this year.
Starting from June 9, 2018, the carrier has been offering two weekly year-round rotations connecting Helsinki and Minsk, the capital of Belarus, using Embraer 190 aircraft on the route.
But according to Belarus media while still not confirmed by the carrier, Finnair will perform its last flight on the route on March 5, 2019, citing low demand in the market.
Since June 1, 2011, the Belarus carrier Belavia is also serving the route with three weekly flights with CRJ200 aircraft, with cargo sales entrusted to the Latvian GSA provider, Sky High Agency, that opened an own office at Helsinki Airport concurrent with the opening of the flights by its Belarus airline customer.
