Feb 15, 2019 (newstodate): Cargo contributes significantly to the over-all revenues of Finnair while slightly down, percentage-wise, in 2018.
According to Finnair's Report of the Board, revenues from cargo operations constituted 7.3 percent of the Group's total revenues at euro 2,834.6 mio, compared to 7.7 percent in 2017 of total revenues at euro 2,568.4 mio.
Cargo revenues were thus euro 206.9 mio in 2018, up 4.8 percent, y-o-y, of which euro 155.7 mio were generated in the Asian traffic, compared to 12 in the N Atlantic and 32.4 in the European markets.
In 2017, the figures were a total of euro 197.4 mio including 147.1 in Asia, 10.9 in the N Atlantic, and 31 in Europe.
In 2018, Finnair Cargo processed a total of 158,140 tonnes, an increase by only 0.7 percent with available scheduled cargo tonne kilometers up by 17.1 percent, and revenue cargo tonne kilometers increasing by 11.5 percent, compared to 2017.
Finnair commissioned its COOL Nordic Cargo terminal by QA4, 2017, with production starting from January 8, 2018, and the ramp-up of the new terminal operations was still visible in first half of the year when cargo revenue grew at a slower pace than other revenue areas. The operations started to pick-up quickly after the summer, and in the second half of the year Finnair Cargo made several records in cargo tonnes handled.
