Feb 18, 2019 (newstodate): Estonia's Tallinn Airport is fighting a tough battle for cargo - but 2019 did not start out too well.
The airport saw total volumes down by 4.9 percent, y-o-y, in January 2019, to 865 tonnes, including 629 tonnes of cargo and 235 tonnes of mail.
But while cargo volumes were thus again down by 15.8 percent, y-o-y, mail volumes tell another story with a growth by 23.4 percent, driven by e-commerce shipments.
In January 2018 cargo volumes were already down 21 percent, y-o-y, but mail volumes were on the rise.
So for Tallinn Airport, prospect for a re-bounce in cargo clearly lies in a sustained drive for e-trade business.
