Feb 07, 2019 (newstodate): Launching the CPH Cargo Community on February 6, 2019, Copenhagen Airport presented an ambitious and aggressive cargo strategy 2019-22.
-Key to this strategy are five Must-Win Battles, said Lars Gotfredsen, CPH Air Cargo Manager.
-First, CPH must grow in pharma where volumes in 2018 exceeded 30,000 tonnes. Next, we must develop the new infrastructure in the eastern area with the Airport Business Park offering facilities for pharma, e-commerce, Valuables and seafood. We must grow in the full range of commodities including e-commerce, seafood, relief operations, live animals, valuables and other special handling operations. We must digitalize the entire value chain to link all pertinent stakeholders, and we must develop our organization and the cargo community to be ready for further growth.
In 2018, the airport handled a total of 356,343 tonnes of cargo, of which 55 percent was in transit based on the airport's total reach of 900 destinations.
This total volume was actually down 2.7 percent, y-o-y, due to a shortfall of freighter traffic, while belly cargo loads were up 5.7 percent, including volumes on integrators accounting for 22 percent.
With the new strategy, the target is to grow cargo volumes to 475,000 tonnes by 2022, and with the full implementation of the CPH Business Park, still in a preliminary planning stage, the total volumes would go as high as one mio tonnes per year.
The ultimate ambition is to secure a position for Copenhagen Airport as the largest air cargo hub in Northern Europe.
