Dec 18, 2019 (newstodate): Plans for a new airline to succeed Slovenia's Adria Airways that folded its wings on October 1, 2019, now seem to have been abandoned.
To be supported by the Slovenian government and tentatively named Air Slovenia, the new carrier was optimistically hoped to lift-off on its first flight already in February 2020, eventually equipped with a fleet of 12 aircraft on a route network comprising 15 destinations in Europe.
Now, the country's PM has acknowledged that it is "highly unlikely" to see the project materialized due to lack of sufficient financing and the prompt take-over by external carriers of many of the routes formerly served by Adria Airways.
Industry sources earlier claimed that negations had been conducted with five companies for setting up a new airline under a joint venture with a partner, with four Slovenian and one foreign party taking part in discussions.
