Dec 12, 2019 (newstodate): According to a US media, Atlantic Airways has now obtained the final go-ahead from US authorities to start flights to New York.
Forbes Magazine reports that DOT has approved Atlantic Airways' application for a Foreign Air Carrier Permit allowing the carrier to launch flights between Vagar Airport and New York Newark Airport.
Originally, hopes were to start services from Vagar Airport to New York already from September 2019 including a series of 4-6 rotations with Airbus A320neo aircraft pending full authorizations by the government bodies involved.
This did not materialize, however, also due to late delivery of the first Airbus A320neo, but Atlantic Airways also did not get the Foreign Carrier Permit to introduce the flights in time.
Later, hopes were to start flights to the USA at least before Christmas.
It seems that news on the DOT decision has been brought to Atlantic Airways by the US media, however.
At this time, there is thus no details on a start-up date, nor further information on the airline's plans for the traffic.
