Dec 03, 2019 (newstodate): The Slovenian government is obviously finding it hard to establish a new national carrier with a foreign regional airline, to fill the void left by the collapse of Adria Airways on October 1, 2019.
Earlier, the government claimed that a decision on a successor to Adria Airways would be announced already before the end of November 2019 - but failed to deliver.
Industry sources claimed that negations had been conducted with five companies for setting up a new airline under a joint venture with a partner, with four Slovenian and one foreign party taking part in discussions.
Supported by the Slovenian government and tentatively named Air Slovenia, a new carrier would lift-off on its first flight already in February 2020 with a fleet of 12 aircraft on a route network comprising 15 destinations in Europe.
This optimistic plan has so far found little response, and the tentative time-frame seems to be slipping.
In November, the Slovenian state-owned Bank Assets Management Company outlined a more cautious business plan for the potential new national airline, seeing a model with initially five aircraft.
