Dec 02, 2019 (newstodate): Iceland's coming new low-cost carrier PLAY did not manage to fulfil its pledge of opening for bookings before the end of November 2019.
-As we are a startup company, things can sometimes take a little longer than planned as there are many tasks to finalize, the company says in a tweet.
-Our original plan was to start selling tickets in November, but unfortunately, we must delay that a little longer.
The delay in opening up for bookings is probably due to lack of sufficient financial backing to secure the first aircraft needed for obtaining an operating licence which is again a precondition for obtaining slots necessary to launch commercial flights.
The core group behind the project earlier planned that flights would commence in December 2019, starting out with two Airbus A321 aircraft, growing to six aircraft in 2020, and to 10 aircraft within the first three years of operation.
The tweet does not, however, indicate when the market can now expect to witness the first flight of PLAY.
