Dec 11, 2019 (newstodate): Latvia's airBaltic will bolster its already strong positions in the neighbouring markets of Estonia and Lithuania by the start of the summer 2020 schedule.
The carrier has now announced the launch of direct flights to four new destinations from Tallinn, Estonia, and five new routes from Vilnius, Lithuania.
Serving the Estonian market, airBaltic will thus commence new direct flights from Tallinn to Rome, Zurich, Hamburg and Nice.
In the Lithuanian market, airBaltic will introduce flights starting in late March 2020 on five new direct routes from Vilnius to Hamburg, Zurich, Gothenburg, as well as to Dubrovnik and Rijeka, starting in May.
In summer 2020, airBaltic will thus be serving flights to 16 destinations from Estonia, and 11 from Lithuania.
airBaltic opened its base at Tallinn Airport in November 2014, and now has two Airbus A220-300 aircraft allocated to flights from Estonia, effectively squeezing out its Estonian competitor Nordica that finally retreated from the market for scheduled services from July 2019.
airBaltic opened its base at Vilnius in November 2014, benefiting from the final collapse of Lithuania's last attempt to establish a national carrier Air Lituanica that finally folded its wings on May 22, 2015.
