Dec 18, 2019 (newstodate): Already in 2020, a new aircraft maintenance facility will launch business at Lithuania's Siauliai Airport.
With a total area covering 23,000 sq m, Aviatic MRO will provide maintenance services for Airbus A320, Boeing 737 Classic and Boeing 737 NG aircraft, including D-checks, management of assets and parking.
From the start, only minor maintenance works will be provided, while full-scale services will commence in 2021 after completion of new hangar facilities.
Now, interest in the potentials of Siauliai Airport is also expressed by Israel Aerospace Industries, Israel's largest manufacturer of aerospace equipment.
-Siauliai Airport is of interest to us because of the promising location for the development of our operations in Europe, and Lithuania as a market with a good investment environment and many qualified specialists in engineering and other fields. In addition, the country is already well-known in the aviation market, Refael Matalon, IAI Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, has told media.
Owned and operated jointly by Lithuania's Ministry of Defence and Siauliai Municipality, Siauliai Airport does not belong to the State Enterprise Lithuanian Airports managing the airports at Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga.
A former Soviet air base, Siauliai Airport with a 3,500m CAT 1 runway and a second 3,280m runway is today a key air base serving the NATO air forces supporting the monitoring of the Baltic air space.
