Dec 19, 2019 (newstodate): Icelandair has now again revised its flight schedule based on the assumption that the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will not return to service until May 2020.
Due to the MAX 8 grounding, Icelandair will retain all Boeing 757 aircraft in service while it was earlier planned to start their redelivery already in 2019 as the MAX 8 aircraft were being phased in.
To compensate for the shortfall of capacity, Icelandair has inked a leasing agreement for two Boeing 737-800 aircraft to join the fleet from next spring, and the carrier is also working on lease of a third aircraft.
Stuck on ground are five Boeing 737 MAX 8 and one Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft, while the delivery of a further Boeing 737 MAX 8 and two Boeing 737 MAX 9 was postponed after the grounding of the aircraft type since March 2019.
In the fleet of Icelandair are now 23 Boeing 757-200, two Boeing 757-300, and four Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, while the carrier is also operating two Boeing 757-200PF freighter aircraft on routes between Iceland and Europe as well as serving with integrators on wet-lease contracts.
