Dec 16, 2019 (newstodate): According to media in Greenland, the country's carrier Air Greenland is now considering a replacement of its single wide-body aircraft, the Airbus A330-200.
The aircraft currently used on the airline's trunk route connecting Kangerlussuaq in Greenland and Copenhagen Airport with daily flights is due for retirement after 21 years of service.
According to the media, eyes are on the Airbus A330-800 aircraft that is the same fuselage length as the Airbus A330-200, but powered with fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines as well as bringing several aerodynamic advantages to provide less fuel consumption and environmental novelties.
To be phased in during the doming few years, the new long-haul aircraft must be capable of operating at Greenland's new international airports at Nuuk and Ilulissat, due to be opened in 2023 and replacing the Kangerlussuaq Airport as the country's international gateways.
Air Greenland is also in the process of deciding on new aircraft to provide domestic services within the coming new airports infrastructure.
